The Highest wicket taker in the ongoing under 19 women’s Inter-School Cricket tournament in 2022, North Central Province, Group “C” Cricketer Weheragedara Hirushika Nimanthi Wijesinghe is a student of the Jayasiripura junior School, Polonnaruwa studying in the Ordinary level is one of the most outstanding young women cricketers who has brought honour and glory to her school Jayasiripura junior School with her deeds in the field of cricket.

Hirushika Nimanthi with a farming family background was born on the 30th of April 2004 as the daughter of Weheragedara Ananda Wijesinghe and Dhasinggedera Kumari Menike in Akkara Desiya, Jayasiripura, Polonnaruwa.

She is the sister of Suresh Madushanka(24) and Kavidu D. Geethanjana(3). Hirushika joined Jayasiripura Junior School, in 2010 and excelled in the academic activities from grade one to five from an early age. after her primary education she was involved in school athletics events along with her studies. However her extraordinary talents were noticed by school cricket coach Janaka Priyanath Wickramasinghe who had been instrumental in developing several cricketers in Polonnaruwa district with blessings of the school principal Sarath Gunasinghe, school teacher in charge of sports and physical education R.A. Nirmala and P.C. Sepalika Edirisinghe. Hirushika was inducted as the captain of the new school cricket team in 2021.

Hirushika Nimanthi started her cricket career in the school under 19 women’s cricket tournament in 2021 as a right arm leg spinner and played three matches and bagged nine wickets for the season. In 2022 as of now she has captured 15 wickets in only five matches in the ongoing the under 19 women’s Inter-School Cricket tournament 2021/2022, which was conducted by Sri Lanka school cricket Association (SLSCA) and sponsored by Sri Lanka cricket she became the best player twice of the matches taking 3 wickets for 23 runs in six overs and scored 32 runs against Atharagallewa M.V. Polonnaruwa. and she gained futher success by capturing another 5 wickets for only 5 runs in five overs against St. Fatima Madhya Maha Vidyalayam Pesalai, Mannar.

Apart from this she claimed three wickets for three runs against Wijeyabhu M.M.V, Karukkankulama, three wickets for ten runs against Habarana secondary school and one wicket for 8 runs against Siddhartha central college Eppawala respectively. on top of this she has showcased her left-hand batting skills and promoted to number three position in their batting order.

Hirushika Nimanthi said Our school lacks facilities unlike elite schools however due to the inspiration guidance and encouragement of our teachers and parents my team and I have progressed to this level today. We are grateful to them for that.
