Horana ICU doctor praised for call of duty in distress

Horana Base Hospital’s ICU head Dr. Isuru Gayan Abeywardena, has come in for praise when he tried to save several lives after coming across injured people at a road accident in Ingiriya and rendered assistance by travelling in a van taking the injured to the Ingiriya Hospital, leaving his vehicle behind.

Ingiriya Police said one person died and another was seriously injured when a tipper in which three were travelling met with in an accident near the St.Peter’s junction on the Ingiriya-Padukka Road.The person who died in the accident has been identified as Kasun Sameera Upashantha (32), a resident of Atakalanpanna. Dr. Abeywardena who was travelling to the Horana hospital in his vehicle had lent im mediate assistance and then had travelled in the van taking the injured to the Ingiriya hospital and from there to Horana hospital in a bid to save their lives.
