“Though the shrunken tourism industry is recovering it may take a few more months to completely recover. We are also receiving continued calls from hoteliers requesting relief and the government will explore the possibility of extending the grace period,” the Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.
Ranatunga said that he hopes to discuss the matter with the Minister of Power and Energy. With Sri Lanka’s vacation success and more airlines patronizing Sri Lanka, Tourism is picking up with 45,413 tourists arriving up to October 13.
Meanwhile, the Tourism Development Authority is observing an increase of tourist hotels, accommodation and travel service providers showing special interest to register with them. “Currently there are 5,786 tourist hotels registered with the Development Authority and new registrations are done online.”
