Members of the Sri Lanka Parliament observed a minute of silence in memory of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his entourage who were killed in a helicopter crash recently
Chief Government Whip Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, proposed to the Parliament that a minute’s silence should be observed for the death of the Iranian President.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka also expressed their condolences on the death of Iranian President Mohammad Raisi earlier.
Minister Ranatunga also recalled that the Iranian President was the most recent head of state to visit the country recalling the efforts and support provided to complete the Uma Oya multipurpose development project, he proposed to observe a minute’s silence in Parliament and express condolences of all the MPs on the death of the Iranian President.
Chief Opposition Whip Sajith Premadasa said that the sudden death of the Iranian President was a big loss, especially for Sri Lanka and the entire region. Iran as a long-term friend of Sri Lanka has provided enormous support in many fields including the development of the country.
The Iranian government provided support especially for the completion of the Uma Oya multipurpose development project.
