Houses for four families courtesy Asgiriya Mahanayake Thera

Four houses that were built with the contributions of the Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter, Theras of the Vinsath Vargika Committee and the Urban Development Authority (UDA), for four families who did not have permanent residences in Asgiriya, Kandy, were handed over to them yesterday (18).

These houses valued at around Rs. 10 million each had been constructed in Aruppola near the Polgolla Reservoir.

Asgiriya Chapter Sangha Committee member, Venerable Muruddeniye Dhammarathana Nayake Thera, guardian of the Badulla Muthiyangana Rajamaha Vihara, said that these houses were constructed near the Mahaweli River where a perch of land is valued at around Rs. 1 million and that each householder has been granted ownership of six perches of land.

While the UDA has provided the land for the construction of these houses, free of charge, the construction of these houses has been carried out with financial contributions of the Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera and the Theras who are Sangha Committee members.

Venerable Murudeniye Dhammarathana Nayake Thera said further that based on present market values, the value of one house including the land is about Rs. 10 million.

This programme was implemented on the advice of the Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter, Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera.

The Eleventh Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army contributed the labour for construction. Venerable Dr. Medagama Dhammananda Thera, Registrar of the Asgiri Maha Vihara Chapter, Venerable Urulewatthe Dhammarakkhita Thera, Chief Incumbent of the Mahiyangana Rajamaha Vihara, Venerable Narampanawe Ananda Thera, Deputy Registrar of Asgiriya Chapter, Venerable Murudeniye Dhammarathana Thera, Trustee of Badulla Muthiyangana Rajamaha Vihara, and Venerable Atipola Mahinda Nayake Thera together with the Assistant Commissioner of Buddhist Affairs B. M. A. Bandara, Divisional Secretary of the Gangawata Koralaya Sampath Bandara Jayasinghe, Commander of the Eleventh Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army Major General Mahinda Ranasinghe, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Prabhath Madduma Arachchi and a group of people were present when the houses were handed over to the people.
