Hundred more Rest Houses planned countrywide

Plans are drawn to establish hundred new rest houses in places with tourist attractions across the country.

Lanka Rest House Limited Chairman Dulip Wijesekera said that these Rest Houses are to be run in agreement with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and the private sector.

This programme will be implemented as per the instructions of Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

Lanka Rest House Limited is an institution operating under the Urban Development and Housing Ministry and established in 2007. The Chairman said that 25 Rest Houses are currently in operation in the Northern and Eastern Provinces including Ratnapura, Matara and Peradeniya.

Minister Ranatunga said that quality service must be provided to customers to make this Rest House operating under Lanka Rest House Limited profitable. “All existing Rest Houses under Lanka Rest House Limited should be properly managed and they should be run based on new concepts”, the Minister said.

The Chairman further said that these Rest Houses were in ruins in the past due to lack of proper management.However, Lanka Rest House Limited has become profitable at the moment due to the implementation of many new programmes to attract customers to existing Rest Houses.
