Husband who attempted to poison former wife gets 10 year sentence

A husband who attempted to kill his former wife by abducting and poisoning her, pleaded guilty in Hambantota High Court yesterday.

The Hambantota High Court yesterday (24) ordered the a 10-year suspended prison sentence, a fine of Rs.15,000 and a compensation of Rs.1.2 million to the husband who kidnapped his legally divorced wife for attempting to kill her.

The suspect was 42 year old father of one who resides in Ambalanthota.

The suspect came to kidnap his divorced wife who is a teacher by a car while she was walking to the school, in Nonagama, Ambalanthota.

The suspect tried to feed a bottle of acid to his divorced wife because he couldn’t see her getting ready to marry another man.During the altercation, a bottle of acid had fallen on the accused body injuring her seriously.
