“Well, My family is my main support system. Words would fail to describe ll the sacrifices they have made for me, and the support that they have extended; especially in terms of my cricket journey. My coaches have played an imperative role in guiding me on the correct path and molding me into the sportsman I am today. My close friends and their parents have been by my side through all my hardships. I’m truly blessed and thankful for all of them”. “Being a cricketer was my childhood dream and I believe that it somehow felt right to choose that path and that’s the reason why I chose cricket”. “I believe being a cricketer is never easy. It requires us to constantly challenge our limits to do better in the game. However, since many of us cricketers are passionate about what we do, all our sacrifices, the sweat we break, and all the hard work we put in never feels like a burden. I would say it’s a roller coaster ride. We encounter many highs and lows, but the experiences gained, and the satisfaction received in giving it all we have is truly rewarding”.
“I would say I am, but there have been instances where I’ve felt that I could have done better. I’m determined to do better along the way and achieve greater heights in the coming years”. “My favourite cricketer is Angelo Mathews and whenever I have free time I sing and play the guitar”. “It is a tie between scoring a century at the 2017 Joe-Pete one-day encounter and scoring the winning runs at the finals of the T20 premier league tournament for the Colombo Cricket Club (CCC). Those are my most unforgettable incidents thus far in life and to date I really cherish those moments”. “I would say my top priorities are my family, cricket and health”. I’m certainly doing what I believe in as I’m passionate and love what I do”.
“As of now, my greatest accomplishment is Representing the Sri Lankan U19 Cricket Team”. “I hardly compare myself to anyone, but I do sometimes reflect on who I am when I’m at my best. It reminds me of my true potential and keeps me going during rough times.”. Every time I hear my parents say how proud they are the best ever compliments I have received”.
“The pandemic reminded me of the uncertainty of life. It taught me to never take anything or anyone for granted. I learned to be thankful for what I have been blessed with and most importantly to cherish every moment with my family”. “The most embarrassing moment was bowling 10 deliveries in a single over at the Joe-Pete one-day encounter.”.
“In life I like to describe myself as a Humble and determined person and to be a national cricketer has been my childhood dream and I’m glad to say that I still work towards realizing that dream”. “I would want to be remembered as a person who has achieved great heights in my career. That’s the kind of legacy I would like to be remembered for” concluded Manelkar Se Silva.
