The Industrial Development Board (IDB) recently tied up with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Forum to make the concept of building an export-oriented manufacturing based economy a reality.

Industrial Development Board (SLIDB) Chairman Saranga Alahapperuma said that a planned programme has already been launched by the SLIDB and that the support of micro, small and medium scale entrepreneurs is vital for that purpose. Therefore, he said that it is a unique opportunity for the SLIDB to enter into an agreement with the Micro, Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs Forum.

In order to make the concept of building an export-oriented manufacturing based economy a reality, it is essential to develop micro, small and medium scale entrepreneurs who have more space in the entrepreneurial society, he added.

Through this MoU, the IDB will take steps to encourage and support micro, small and medium entrepreneurs to create an environment conducive to entrepreneurship by solving their problems.

“The SLIDB is actively involved in the development of micro, small and medium scale entrepreneurs in the 25 districts of the country through the Board’s district offices. Necessary instructions and guidance are provided by these district offices. Also, the Board has already started a good platform called “Ceylon Plaza” for the sale of the products of the entrepreneurs. All entrepreneurs can avail this free service. Also, in the future, together with your forum, we will provide the necessary support and contribution to solve the issues related to enterprises. Micro, small and medium enterprises should also be interested in taking advantage of this. In this way, you entrepreneurs will be able to perform as a driving force in our economic development,” he noted.
