Illegal immigrants fined Rs. 50,000 each

Minuwangoda Magistrate T. Thenabadu fined the two persons Rs. 50,000 each, who pleaded guilty for trying to illegally migrate to Australia.

The two persons from Peduru Tuduwa and Kilinochchi who attempted to go to Australia on a multi-day cruise and were illegally staying in another where they were arrested were subsequently deported to Sri Lanka on a special plane in 2017. They had been arrested by the officers of the Criminal Investigation Department.

The two suspects who were arrested were released on bail subsequent to being produced before the Minuwangoda Magistrate’s Court. The two persons were charged on February 22 and were fined after pleading guilty. The Court lifted the travel ban on the two persons. Criminal Investigation Department officers led the complaint.
