Imalshi Dhananjana an athlete par excellence

Fifteen year old up and coming Athlete school under 12, 13, 14 and 16 champion Zonal Athletic Champion, District and Provincial Colours holder, John Tarbet Junior and Senior Colours holder, Subasinghe Hewa Widanage Imalshi Dhananjana Subasinghe has brought honour and glory for her alma mater National School, Dambulla with her deeds on the athletic field.

Imalshi was born on June 4, 2006 and admitted to the Primary of National School Dambulla When she was in Grade Five their school athletic coach Mr.Walter picked up her talents for athletics and made arrangements to participate in the Galewala Zonal Educational Athletic Meet under eleven event and she swept the board in High Jump, Long Jump and 100 Metres and became the Zonal Champion at her first attempt itself.

In 2011 she was admitted to their Senior School and her parents Janaka Pathmakumara and Nanda Malani knowing the skills and talents of their daughter they handed over her to the school athletic coach Pradeep Jayashantha,

Then in the following year she participated in the school Inter House Athletic Meet under 12 category and won the High Jump and Long Jump events. Same year after strenuous training at the District Educational Meet she won the High Jump and Long Jump and set records for both events and she was adjudged the Best Up and coming athlete from the District. Same year at the Provincial Meet she came second in High Jump and Long Jump in the under 12 events.

Her first attempt at the 2017 John Tabet meet under 12 age limit she won the Colours for Long Jump and High Jump.

At the 2018 Inter House Meet participating in the under 14 age limit she came third in High Jump, Long Jump and 100 Metre events and at the Provincial Educational meet she won all three events Long Jump, High Jump and 80 Metre hurdles achieving colours.

Then in 2019 Inter House Sports Meet she swept the board in the under 14 age group in 80 Metre Hurdles, Long Jump and High Jump and became the school Champion. Same year at the Galewala Zonal Meet she came first in High Jump and second in Long Jump and at Central Provincial Educational meet in the under 14 age group she clocked 15.3 seconds at the 80 metre hurdles and set a record and came third in High Jump and at the John Tarbet Meet she won Colours for High Jump and 75 MetreHurdles in the under 14 event. Then in the John Tarbet meet representing the under 14 athletic contingent of Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Central Provinces she won Colours for 75 metre hurdles by clocking 14.4 seconds and High Jump Colours for clearing 1.32 meters.

At the 2020 School Inter House Sports Meet she became the under 16 champion by winning Long Jump, Javelin and High Jump. She was awarded the 2020 Best up and coming under 16 girls athletic award and at the 2017 and 2018 school prize giving she was awarded school Athletic Colours
