Imported sugar levy increased to Rs.50 per kilo

The Special Commodity Levy imposed on imported sugar has been increased to Rs.50 per kilo from yesterday (2), by the Finance Ministry through a Government notification. This increased Special Commodity Levy on sugar by Rs. 50 per Kilo will be valid for a year with effect from yesterday (2) till November 2, 2024.

The relevant government notification has been issued by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies Minister, by virtue of the powers vested to him under the Section 2 of the Special Commodity Levy Act No. 48 of 2007.

The previous Special Commodity Levy that was imposed on imported sugar was 25 cents per kilogram which has been revised since yesterday to Rs.50 per kilo.
