Speaking in Parliament, Premadasa extended his gratitude to the Security Forces, including the Army, for their full support in the vaccination drive. Premadasa pointed out that the government should take steps to save human lives and expedite the COVID-19 vaccination programme in the country.
The Opposition Leader also said that the third vaccine should also be introduced. Premadasa said retired health sector employees can be called in to assist the fight against the pandemic, adding that action should be taken to procure equipment from abroad.
The Opposition Leader said that despite such a catastrophe, the Disaster Management Committee had not been convened as of yet and he proposed to the government to commence it immediately.
Premadasa added that the security and health sectors would be in a major risk if immediate steps are taken to lock down the country.
