Sajeev de Silva, the lone Sri Lankan archer competing at the Hyundai World Archer Championships held in Berlin 2023, showcased his mettle in the Recurve event, securing an impressive 57th position out of a fiercely competitive field of 168 archers.
Participating in a knockout-based tournament, de Silva engaged in a gripping showdown against Spain’s adept archer ACHA Pablo. The intense battle culminated in a nail-biting victory for the Spanish contender, with a final score of 6-5 in favor of Pablo. This hard-fought victory propelled ACHA Pablo into subsequent rounds, ultimately concluding the tournament in the 9th position.
The summit of the Recurve men’s event was conquered with a gold medal by the skillful hands of Mete Gazoz from Turkiye, who exhibited exceptional precision and mastery. Canada’s Eric Peters secured the silver medal, while Brazil’s Marcus D’Almeida clinched the coveted bronze.
An eye-catching highlight of the event was the remarkable performance of India’s archery team, which claimed an impressive trio of gold medals and a solitary bronze in the seven-day tournament, solidifying their dominance in the meet. Korea also left their mark with a robust performance, securing two gold medals and one silver. Turkiye solidified their position by securing third place through a gold and silver.
