Imtiaz calls for International probe
Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Imtiaz Bakeer Markar said that it is ridiculous to try to find solutions through Parliament without starting an acceptable investigation with international connections regarding the allegations that have arisen in relation to the Easter attacks.
He also said that by trying to find solutions through Parliamentary committees, the mistrust among the people will increase and the solutions will be suppressed.
Bakeer Markar said this while speaking to the media yesterday (11) after visiting the Mahanayakas of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters. On this occasion, he presented the Chief Prelates with a book written by him titled ‘Sithamu’.
He also emphasized that His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith is of the opinion that a formal investigation with international connections should be done in this regard and that the President was also of the stance that an investigation should be carried out with the help of Scotland Yard and that the Opposition Leader also holds the same opinion.
The MP also said that we should not give judgements in this regard, but we cannot escape the responsibility of conducting an acceptable and fair investigation.
He also stated that we should not act in such a way that the people of the country do not have confidence in the investigation of the Easter attacks, against a background of mistrust among the people in connection with investigations carried out so far.
The SJB MP said that the President should get out of the clutches of the grip of the people who brought this country to the state it is in today and establish a Democratic Government according to the wishes of the people, but such a situation does not seem to occur.
He said further that a society where the existence of democracy is challenged is moving towards extremism and everyone should dedicate themselves to protect the basic rights of the people.
