Lady Ridgeway Hospital’s Consultant Paediatrician Dr. Deepal Perera yesterday said that there has been an increase in the incidence of asthma among children.
He said that it has been caused by continuous rainfall for three to four months. There has been an increase in the number
of children suffering from viral fever with the rain, he said. He also said that if any child has symptoms of cough, cold or fever, that child should not be sent to school or day care centers. Dr.Deepal Perera stated that these viral diseases occur in the upper respiratory system and the number of children infected with dengue has also increased. He said that apart from respiratory diseases, eye diseases are also spreading and parents should follow health measures to protect children from these viral infections.
