Increase in HIV infected persons this year

The number of people infected with the HIV virus has increased by 60 in the first three quarters of this year compared to the first three quarters of last year.

Accordingly, during this year, 485 HIV infected people have been reported so far and a total of 5496 infected people have been reported. Last year, 425 HIV infected persons were reported.

National STD and AIDS Control Programme Director Dr.Janaki Vidanapathirana said yesterday (2) that there is an increase in the number of people infected with AIDS compared to last year.

She said that the number of infected people between the ages of 15 and 24 has increased this year compared to last year and that 79 people have been reported in this age group.
