Medical examination charges have been arbitrarily doubled without any approval. It is mandatory for all migrant workers seeking employment in the Middle East to obtain medical reports only from a medical center approved by the Gulf Health Council. Colombo has nine medical centers and Kurunegala has five medical centers.
Due to the current situation in the country workers are facing severe difficulties with transport facilities being limited and fares have gone up. An awareness discussion will be held to make the workers aware of the various malpractices that are taking place in these medical centers, the Association of Licensed Foreign Employment Agencies said at a press briefing .
