India bound woman held with gems worth Rs. 291 Mn
A woman who tried to carry a stock of gems worth Rs.291 million to India was arrested at the departure terminal of the Katunayake Airport yesterday (30). Customs Director Seevali Arukgoda said the suspect came to the Katunayake airport yesterday (30) to head to Chennai, India.
The suspect is a 30 year old businesswoman from Orugodawatta. Arukgoda further said that the jewels weighing 2 kg and 311 grams were hidden among the clothes of the suspect. A group of officers of the Katunayake Airport Security Department had seized this stock of gems and handed them over to the Customs officials for further investigation.
Customs officials detained the woman and investigations continue.
