India crush Pakistan by 228 runs at Asia Cup
Two superb unbeaten centuries by Virat Kohli (122) and K.L. Rahul (111) with wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadev having fine figures of 5 for 25, India recorded a massive 228 runs win over Pakistan in their super four match of the Asia Cup cricket tournament played at R.Premadasa International Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Pakistan chasing a challenging target of 357 were 128 all out in 32 overs (two batters Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah were not batted due to injury) and Indians dominated to win over Pakistan with 18 overs to spare. The indian batters made fine display while Virat Kohli and K.L Rahul were guided to build up the total while Yadav was the chief wreaker taking five wickets given away 25 runs in his 8 over spell.
During the Pakistan innings 78 minutes lost due to rain but no deduction of the overs and game was resumed once again at 9.20 pm. Virat Kohli was named Man of the Match.
This India’s win is the highest margin against Pakistan (228 runs) while non of the Pakistan batters were succussful to complete a big score. India dominated both batting and bowling as this game went on to play on reserve day due to bad weather on Sunday.
With this massive win India is came on top of the points table having 4.560 net run rate followed by Sri Lanka with 0.420 and both teams took 2 points each while Pakistan with 2 points after playing 2 matches with – 1.892 were at third place and Bangladesh couldn’t get a single win and was at fourth place with -0.749 run rate. India were 147 for 2 wickets on previous day as game was called off due to bad weather. Once again play resumed yesterday on reserve day but rain interrupted again at 3pm and ground staff did superb job to commence the game at 4.40pm.
The overnight pair Kohli and Rahul were well settle and started to hit all over the ground and Pakistan bowlers were under pressure from the start yesterday.
Rahul who replaced for Shreyas Iyer used his experience to reach fifty in 60 balls with 5 fours and a six while most attractive right hander Kohli completed his fifty in more aggressive manner in 55 balls with 4 fours and both of them continued the innings to build up their total.
India completed their 200 in 32.5 overs while they reached their 300 runs in 44.6 overs (in 270 balls). The 31 year old Rahul completed his sixth century while Kohli was more outstanding to complete his 47 ODI century and he also reached the milestone of 13,000 ODI runs in this game. He is the fastest to reach 13,000 run mark.
After 45 overs India reached 300 runs and both Kohli and Rahul were more aggressive to complete 356 runs in 50 overs and Pakistan bowlers were unable to get a single wicket yesterday and also ground fielding was not up to the mark with slippery condition of the out field. Rahul hit an unbeaten 111 in 106 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes while Kholi made fantastic batting skills adding unbeaten 122 in 94 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes.
Kohli and Rahul added an unbroken 233 runs third wicket stand which is a new Asia Cup record but less then 4500 spectators were present to see their batting display .
Pakistan used six bowlers and Shaheen Afridi took 1 for 79 and leg spinner Shadab Khan captured 1 for 71. Naseem Shah who couldn’t get a single wicket was back to the pavilion with an injury after bowling 9.3 overs.
Today Sri Lanka will meet India in their super four game.
