India, Jaffna ferry service will begin in January – High Commissioner

Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay said yesterday (29) in Jaffna that the shipping service between India and Jaffna, which was temporarily suspended due to bad weather conditions, will definitely be restarted in the first week of January next year.

The Indian High Commissioner said this after visiting the Kankesanthurai Port and Jaffna International Airport.The High Commissioner and his group came to Jaffna by train from Colombo.

He said that the shipping service from Nagapatnam in India to Kankesanthurai Port in Jaffna has been temporarily suspended as a safety measure due to the bad weather conditions developing in the North Sea region due to the northeast monsoon.

The Indian High Commissioner said that the sea and air services would be expanded between Jaffna and India. The Indian High Commissioner further stated that since many Indian investors are ready to start various industries in Sri Lanka, the commercial activities between Sri Lanka and India are more extensive and stable.
