Indonesian Immigration arrests 27 Sri Lankans

The Indonesian Immigration officers have arrested 27 Sri Lankan nationals living in several apartments in Tangerang, Jakarta due to violating immigration laws.

Head of Tangerang, Jakarta Immigration Rakha Sukma Purnama said that the arrest had been carried out after receiving information from surrounding residents who have said that they were feeling uneasy about the presence of the Sri Lankan nationals living in the apartments.

Upon the complaints received, officers of Tangerang Immigration together with South Tangerang Resort Police then visited the location to conduct an inspection. Purnama said yesterday (19) that the inspection resulted in apprehending 27 foreign nationals who are Sri Lankans living in different apartment units. At the time of meeting the immigration officers and the police, the Sri Lankan nationals have been staying inside their apartment units. The investigation officers found that these foreigners have allegedly violated immigration laws as stipulated under Law No. 6 of 2011.
