Inflation decreases further in Sept.

In September 2024, the overall rate of inflation by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) basis decreased to -0.5 % in comparison to August 2024on Y-on-Y basis.

The Y-on-Y inflation of Food Group decreased to -0.3% in September 2024 from 0.8% in August 2024 and the Y-on-Y inflation of Non Food Group decreased to -0.5% in September 2024 from 0.4% in August 2024. For the month of September 2024, on a Y-on-Y basis, contribution to inflation by food commodities was -0.11%.

The contribution of Non Food items was -0.37%. This was mainly due to price decrease in some essential items.

However, price increases were seen in Health and Communication.
