Inmate trying to smuggle in four phones nabbed
A suspect who attempted to smuggle in four mobile phones was nabbed at the Kalutara Prison yesterday. The inmate convicted of having cannabis by the Panadura Magistrate’s Court had meticulously concealed the four mobile phones in a pair of shoes.
The incident took place yesterday and the suspect was produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court by the police and fined. He had used this tactic to smuggle mobile phones into the prison.
Due to the close surveillance of the CCTV system and the Armed Forces officers operating at the Kalutara Prison, the throwing of prohibited substances from outside into the prison premises has been prevented and prisoners are trying out various methods to smuggle these banned items into the prisons.
