IP fleeing after knocking down pedestrian arrested 20 km ahead

A Police Inspector attached to the Negombo Police who allegedly fled without stopping after knocking down a pedestrian while driving his car in Dambagahamula area of the Kurunegala – Dambulla main road was arrested on Tuesday night.  

The IP who was fleeing in the car was arrested by a team of police officers from Gokarella.

The car had been stopped at a distance about 20 kilometers from the place of the accident.

Police said that the police Inspector’s wife and children were also in the car when the accident took place. Police said that the accident happened while the officer was on leave.

The pedestrian who was hit by the car driven by this officer was injured and admitted to Dambulla Hospital. Police said that the suspect IP was released on Rs.200,000 surety bail after being produced in court.
