IP injured, jeep damaged in Ahangama raid

Acting Media Spokesperson DIG Ruwan Gunasekara said six members from the same family had been arrested by the Ahangama Police for attacking a group of Ahangama Police officers who went on a raid to arrest illegal liquor. Police said that there are three women among the arrested. An officer was injured and the back glass of a jeep was damaged due to stone pelting.

Police say that a group of about eight surrounded the police officers and attacked the officers with sticks and stones in order to free the suspect who was arrested and about to be taken to the Police Station with 375 liters of illegal liquor. DIG Gunasekara said that the police investigation revealed that the person who attacked the police inspector with a stick had gone to work at sea after the incident. The injured Inspector was admitted to the to the Karapitiya Hospital for treatment.

The Deputy Inspector General added that apart from the suspect who went to sea, another person is to be arrested in connection with the attack on Police personnel.
