Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone after it allegedly violated Iranian airspace, according to state media reports.
The IRGC claimed the aircraft was identified as a “hostile drone” and downed after entering Iranian territory, adding that it reserves the right to respond to any further ceasefire violations by the United States.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions following US military strikes on rocket-launch sites described as “defensive” operations, as a fragile ceasefire in the region continues to hold.
The MQ-9 Reaper is a long-endurance US surveillance and strike drone that has previously been involved in several incidents in contested Middle East airspace. (Newswire)
