Iranian Oil Tanker Hit by Four Missiles Near Key Kharg Island Oil Hub

An Iranian oil tanker has reportedly been struck by four U.S. missiles near Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export hub in the Gulf, according to Iranian media.

Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that the tanker was hit in the anchorage area near Kharg Island on Saturday. Local sources cited by the agency said there were no casualties and that the crew was being evacuated.

There has been no immediate official announcement from Iranian authorities confirming the circumstances of the strike. U.S. Central Command had also not responded to a request for comment on the reported attack, Reuters reported.

Kharg Island is strategically important to Iran’s economy, having handled around 90% of the country’s crude oil exports before the current conflict. Iran is also the third-largest oil producer in OPEC. (Newswire)
