Isipathana College and St. Joseph’s College have emerged as the only unbeaten teams after the completion of the fourth week of matches in the Inter-Schools Under-20 ‘A’ Division League Rugby Tournament..

Last week, both teams came out with an outstanding performance as the former champions Isipathana defeated St. Peter’s College 29-17 at Havelock Park while the Joes edged out Trinity College 20-15 at Pallekele. Now St. Joseph’s have set up a mouth-watering clash against the defending champions Royal College this weekend to decide the top spot in the Division.

Even then, the advantage now is with the Josephians, who still have two more games in hand while the second position in Group-1 for the Super Round stage will be fought out between Royal and Trinity. In fact, Royal are currently heading the Group-1 points table as they bounced back into recognition with an impressive 20-8 victory over the traditional rivals S. Thomas’ College, which helped them to retain the Michael Gunaratne Trophy for the fourth successive year.

Isipathana, despite conceding a try for the first time this season, retained the top spot of the points table in Group-2 and are well on course to play in the Super Round stage with two relatively easy games coming up against Dharmaraja College and Vidyartha College respectively.

The surprise package in Group-2 is Wesley College, who have jumped into second place in the points table after their morale boosting 38-10 victory over Science College at Longden Place.

The Wesleyites, are now in with a great chance of qualifying for the Super Round stage as the favourites of this group St. Peter’s have almost bowed out following their second defeat of the tournament.

Another major turnaround in the points table came when St. Anthony’s College moved ahead of S. Thomas’ in Group-1 after their massive 57-7 bonus-point victory over hometown rivals Kingswood College.
