Italy, Sri Lanka forge ties in educational sphere

Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said that moves are under way to form a mutual mechanism to recognize the educational qualifications  in Italy and Sri Lanka. Minister Premajayantha made these remarks in a discussion held between him and Education Minister of Italy Giuseppe Valditara recently in Italy. Both the Ministers expressed their ideas regarding the preparation of a system that would be mutually recognised in both countries regarding the educational qualifications of Italy and Sri Lanka.

The ministers also agreed that the existence of mutual recognition for education in the two countries is a good support for the economic growth of both countries as well as the development of social cooperation.

In this meeting held with the aim of developing the educational cooperation between the two countries, Minister Premajayantha said that he is particularly interested in formalising the vocational training education in this country to match the professional opportunities in Italy. Furthermore, he requested the Italian Education Minister to provide the necessary support to prepare a language laboratory and a system for Sri Lankans to learn the Italian language formally.

The Minister drew the attention of the Italian Education Minister regarding the further expansion of higher education opportunities in Italy for students of this country.

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Italy Dr.Jagath Wellawatta and other embassy officials joined the event.
