Jaffna Opens First-Ever Dedicated Boxing Ring Area, Marking Milestone for Northern Sports Development
The Jaffna District Boxing Association proudly organizes the Grand Opening Ceremony of the first-ever Boxing Ring Area in the Jaffna District, marking a historic milestone for boxing development in Northern Sri Lanka.
This special event is conducted under the guidance and support of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, the national governing body for amateur boxing in Sri Lanka.
The ceremony will be honored by the presence of distinguished guests and officials:
Mr. K. Vijitharan — President of the Ceremony & District Sports Officer, Jaffna
Mr. B. Muhunthan — Chief Guest & Director, Department of Sports, Northern Province
Dr. Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara — President, Boxing Association of Sri Lanka
Mr. C.P.M. Nanayakkara — Chairman, Ceylon Pro Boxing Commission
Mr. Prasad Wijesekara — Secretary, RJ Commission
Mr. Vincent D. Paul Douglas — Chairman, Urban Council, Point Pedro
The opening of this boxing ring area represents a major step forward in strengthening sports infrastructure and creating greater opportunities for young athletes in Jaffna and across the Northern Province. The facility is expected to become a central venue for training, competitions, coaching development, and boxing promotion activities.
Development Vision
The Jaffna District Boxing Association, together with the guidance of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, plans to further develop boxing in the Northern Province through:
Expansion of school boxing programs
Development of open boxing competitions and district championships
Identification and training of talented young athletes
Improvement of coaching, refereeing, and judging standards
Conducting regular boxing camps and selection meets
Providing opportunities for Northern athletes to compete at national and international levels
Encouraging both male and female participation in boxing
