Jaffna student arrested for threatening shop owner
A student of the Jaffna University who took a sharp knife to a Kopay shop in Jaffna, pointed it at the shop owner’s neck and threatened him with death was arrested by the Kopay police day before yesterday (29).
Kopay police say that this second-year student of Jaffna University’s Science Department may have scared the owner of the shop with the intention of extorting money.
Kopay Police officers who commenced an investigation based on a complaint made to the police by the shop owner had arrested the suspect.
Police also found the knife used by the student to threaten the owner of the shop and Police said that the sharp knife was a knife which is prohibited to be used by a person in a crowded place.
After questioning the student, he had admitted the crime and the Jaffna Kopay Police had taken steps to produce him before the Jaffna Magistrate.
