Januka Indunil boxer and coach par excellence

Sri Lanka Youth Boxing colours holder present sports officer of Sri Sunandopananda Vidyalaya Egoda Uyana Moratuwa Januka Indunil has brought honour and immense glory to his two schools Junior School, Maha Bellana Bandaragama and Vidyarathana University College, Horana and to his motherland in the field of Boxing.

Januka who hails from Maha Bellana, Bandaragama was born on 21 st January 1996 and admitted to Junior School Maha Bellana in 2001. He did not do any sports at school and after passing the fifth year Scholarship Exam he was drafted to Vidyarathana University College Horana in 2007.

In his first two years he did not took an interest for sports but his Parents Lal Gamini Amaradeva and Kumudu Priyadarshani Perera thought that their son should do at least one sport he was handed over to the School Boxing Coach Amila Aravinda Ttssera in 2009 and his first attempt was SchoolsBoxing Tournament held at Veyangoda in the 35-37 Kgs weight category and he was unsuccessful in 2009 .

His next tournament was Junior Boys and Girls Boxing Championship held at Torrington and in the 50-52 Kgs weight he won a Silver Medal in 2012 and in the same year at the All Island School Games held in Colombo he won a Silver in the same weight and in the same year at the Youth Mens and Womens National Boxing Championship at the same weight he won a Gold Medal and at the Junior National Men and Women Boxing Championship held at Royal College, Colombo he carried away another Gold Medal and at the Super Reality Show Boxing Championship he won a Bronze and with these performances under his belt he was selected to represent Sri Lanka at the Asian Youth Boxing Championship held in Thailand and in the same year he was selected to participate at the World Youth Boxing Championship held in Bulgaria

In 2016 he won a Gold at the Men and Women Junior National Boxing Championship held in Colombo. He took over as the Assistant Coach at his alma mater for four years and in 2019 he was selected as a Sports Officer by the Ministry of Education and his first assignment is at his present school Sunandopananda Vidyalaya, Egoda Uyana Moratuwa and in addition to other sports his Principal Somasiri Silva assigned him to do Boxing Coaching and so far in Boxing he has produced three Gold Medalists Nehan Kularathne, Vidusha Peiris and Adeesha Mendis.
