The Kadawatha Police have commenced an investigation into the incident where the driver of the jeep was dragged out of the vehicle by the motorcyclist after a collision between the two at Kadawatha, on the main road from Colombo to Kandy, and the motorcyclist hijacked the jeep.
This incident took place on Wednesday evening (25).
The Hyundai jeep which had been driven by a resident of Pelawatta Sinhapura had collided with the motorcycle from behind.
The police said that the motorcyclist had got into an argument with the driver of the jeep and then another group had come to the spot.
At that time, the person who was driving the jeep had got scared and tried to get back into the jeep and when he tried to leave the place, he was pulled out from the driver’s seat once again by one of the people present at the place and the jeep had been stolen.
According to an investigation carried out based on a complaint made to the police in this regard, it was revealed that this jeep had been taken from a person in Kalmunai on a rental basis. It has also been revealed that the hijacking was carried out by the registered owner of the jeep.
The investigations further revealed that the owner had given it to the person from Kalmunai on rent and that individual had hired it out to another person. It has been found that the person from Kalmunai has now left the country and he has not paid the money owed to the registered owner of the vehicle for 38 months.
Therefore, the police said that the jeep had been hijacked.
The police also said that they will take legal action against those who hijacked the jeep, as they had carried out the hijacking without filing a complaint with the police to recover the jeep belonging to them.
