Efforts are underway to provide job opportunities for Sri Lankan nursing professionals in the USA, revealed Sri Lankan Consulate General in Los Angeles, USA, Dr. Lalith Chandradasa.
Developed countries face a persistent shortage of health workers, including medical and nursing professionals. The domestic attraction to these fields often fails to meet the demand, prompting these countries to recruit health workers from abroad.
The export of health professionals presents a viable and sustainable means for developing countries to earn foreign currency. By focusing on upgrading education and meeting international standards, countries can ensure a steady flow of skilled professionals to meet the global demand, thus fostering economic growth.

Meanwhile, Immediate past President of Private Hospitals and Nursing Home Association Ananda Kuruppuarachchi said that developing countries, particularly in Southeast Asia, are increasingly adopting the strategy of exporting skilled professionals to earn foreign currency. This approach is crucial for the sustainability and economic development of these nations. Among the various sectors, the export of health workers is a significant component.
Countries such as India, the Philippines, Pakistan, and Bangladesh have proactively addressed this demand by upgrading their professional standards. This includes enhancing educational qualifications and aligning with international certification and registration requirements.
