St. Joseph’s Colombo and St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya the arch-rivals came out on top sharing 28-points each in the men’s category to take the overall boys’ championship, while Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo were the overall girls’ champions in the recently concluded Pentathlon Swimming Championships at
the Sugathadasa Swimming Complex.
Both Joes and Visakhians, champions of the National Age Group Relay Championships, worked off early this year, continued their good form to win the respective title.
In the boys’ group, the Darley road swimmers and the Peterites had a total of 28, compared with 10 points scored by Lyceum International, Nugegoda, who came in third place.
However in the girls’ category, Visakians took 24 points, ten points ahead of Lyceum International, Gampaha. which obtained 14 points emerge second. Holy Family Convent and Kalutara Balika took 13 points each to finish jointed third. St. Bridget’s Convent with 11 points ended up fifth.
The experienced Ramudi Samarakoon of Visakha Vidyalaya won first place with 7:39.43 seconds in the girls’ over 20 event while National swimmer Ganga Seneviratne was placed second with 7.35.77 seconds in girls’ under 20 event. Gateway International swimmer Hiruki de Silva finished third with 7.35.38 seconds.
Chris Pavithra of St Peters won boys’ under 20 event with 6.42.07 seconds while Gavin Katunayake of Sri Lanka Aquatics was first placed in boys over 20 with 6.36.18 seconds.
Senitha Deenal of St. Joseph’s and Onithi Onanga of Lyceum International Gampaha won boys and girls under 15 events with 7.10.88 seconds and 8.08.95 seconds, respectively.
