The Women and Child Affairs Ministry together with the Education Ministry has launched a programme to prevent harassment of children in the education sector, Ministry Secretary Neil Bandara Hapuhinna said.
He said that both ministries have identified the recent developments in the school system relating to the harassment of children as a huge problem in the education sector.
“Following the harassment reported in Millaniya and Hanwella and the abuse case reported in Ratnapura, I discussed with the Education Ministry Secretary in this regard and proposed several steps and remedial action to be taken against these incidents,” the Secretary said.
Accordingly, the Education Ministry will conduct programmes to inform the teachers and also to regulate them with the intention of preventing them from committing such crimes, the secretary further said.
