Junior golfers tee off for Rukmani Kodagoda Trophy

Sri Lanka Junior Match Play Golf Championship sponsored by Perera And Sons Bakers for the Rukmani Kodagoda Trophy will tee off on August 9 at Royal Colombo Golf Club. Mrs. Rukmani was a brilliant Tennis Player and played for the National Tennis Team and became a Champion and played golf to its highest level. The junior match play championship is held yearly in honour of late Rukmani Kodagoda, who won the Sri Lanka Amateur Championship in 1979 and several other club tournaments as well.
The Chairperson of Junior Sub Committee,NilooJayatilake stressed that she look forward to the tournament which is a fitting tribute to an inspiring personality to us all and had the fortune of associating and learning from such a large, heartened lady in golfing. Niloo also said the SLG already commenced to train the golf at school level and at the momentAnanda College, Colombo and Trinity College, Kandy.Already training golf in school level and happy to invite the outstation school children to take keen interest to get training in golf in Anuradhapura, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, Trincomalee and also Hambantota.
The inaugural Sri Lanka Junior Match Play Golf Championship was played in 2014 with the junior golfer Prashan Pieris winning the title. The winners in the 2019 Championship was Tania Balasuriya in the girls division and S. Dhuwarthan in the boys. This year’s championship will be played in four categories comprising Gold Division ( 15 – 18 )years, Silver ( 12 – 14 ), Bronze ( 10 – 11 ) and Copper from 9 years and under.
