JVP against removal of Embassies, Consulates in foreign countries

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Politburo member Sunil Handunneththi said in a statement that the removal of Embassies and Consulates in foreign countries should not be done by the Government.

It said the Sri Lankan Government had decided to close three Embassies/Consulates in Cyprus, Nigeria and Frankfurt, Germany, citing the need to cut costs.

“It is essential to maintain diplomatic relations and it is not fair to suspend diplomatic relations in countries where a large number of Sri Lankans are domiciled like Cyprus,” he said.
