JVP files CA writ to revoke Yugadnanavi transfer pact

The People’s Liberation Front (JVP) yesterday filed a writ application with the Court of Appeal seeking a ruling to revoke the deal signed to transfer 40% of the shares of Yugadhanavi Power Plant to US-based New Fortress Energy Inc, Attorney Sunil Watagala stated.He also mentioned that the main reason for this agreement being illegal is that it was signed without following the due process.

“The agreement signed to handover the Kerawalapitiya Yugadhanavi Power plant to an American company without informing the public, Parliament and the Cabinet should be made available to the public,”JVP Central Committe Member Sunil Handunnetti said.

He further stated that this agreement has a severe impact on the politics and economy of our country. He also stated that problems have already been created within the government regarding this matter.

“Such an agreement will affect the future of the country. Energy is one aspect of the country’s security.Whichever the country acquires the country’s energy resources has the right to influence the sovereignty of the country as well as national security,”he added.

He stated that this agreement had a severe impact on the politics and economy of the country.

“There is massive fraud and corruption in awarding this contract to this US company,” he added.
