The Sri Lankan pair of Kajan Ajesh and Yuhansa Peiris continued their outstanding form by claiming the Boys’ and Girls’ Doubles title at the ATF Junior Under-14 Week-2 Tennis Tournament played at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) Courts in Green Path, Colombo yesterday.
After their success in the Singles event on the previous day, both Kajan and Yuhansa carried the momentum into the Doubles Tournament as well to complete a rare double in this annual event. Kajan partnered his countryman Nevan Kannangara and defeated the combination of David Avayoy of Canada and Andre Harnadi from Singapore in a thrilling three-setter 6-3, 3-6, 11-9.
In contrast, Yuhansa and her German partner Leyal Knese had an easy passage toward the title as they trounced the Indian combination of Sanmita Harini and Pruta Rao in straight sets 4-1, 4-2.
(Girls’ Under-14 Doubles final): Yuhansa Peiris (Sri Lanka) and Leyal Knese (Germany) beat Sanmita Harini (India) and Pruta Rao (India) 4-1, 4-2.
(Boys’ Under-14 Doubles final): Kajan Ajesh (Sri Lanka) and Nevan Kannangara (Sri Lanka) beat David Avayoy (Canada) and Andre Harnadi (Singapore) 6-3, 3-6, 11-9.
