The Police Child and Women Abuse Prevention Bureau of Kalutara division yesterday (11) arrested a tuition master in Kalutara who had sexually abused about ten schoolgirls in Kalutara.
Police said that a 30-year-old man residing on Sriniwasa Road in Kalutara North has been arrested.
The suspect who was absconding was arrested when he came to the Kalutara Child and Women Abuse Prevention Bureau to record a statement.
The Kalutara Child and Women Abuse Prevention Bureau states that 16 cases of sexual abuse were revealed through recorded footage of the suspect abusing the girls. Further investigations are being conducted to find more aggrieved girls, police said.
Further investigations are being conducted to ascertain whether he had committed offences in other places he had conducted small group and individual classes in addition to his regular tuition class in Kalutara North.
A senior police officer said that the wife of the teacher had filed a complaint with the Kalutara North Police that the suspected teacher was having extramarital affairs, and when she checked the suspect’s laptop, she had discovered the video footage of girls being abused. She said the parents of the children were also informed.
The teacher abused the girls in deserted areas in the car while providing transport to their homes. He had abused the girls online while the parents had been away from home.
Police say that they have noticed reluctance by aggrieved girls as well as their parents to come forward and requested the victims to report to the Child and Women Abuse Prevention Bureau near Kalutara North Police Station.
The suspect was to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court.
