The inter club first round league rugby tournament kicks off in few days and the defending champions Kandy SC are hard at training and are sure to give their best. The first round matches are December 3 vs CH & FC at Nittawela, December 8 vs Army at Panagoda, December 17 vs Police at Nittawela, December 24 vs Air Force at Ratmalana, January 7 2024 vs Havelock SC at Nittawela, January13 vs Navy at Welisara, January 21 vs CR & FC at Nittawela and the side will be led by back division player Lavanga Perera a product of Kingswood College and coached by Fazil Marija he too is a product of Kingswood College, They have a well balanced side , the forwards coach is Viraj Prashantha who came in few days back,both are giving their best and also the team manager Kapila Silva and veteran Lasantha Wijasuriya rugby chairman
KandySports Club is the most successful team in the history of Sri Lanka rugby, and has won the league title the most number of times; this club team has created a unique record in the annals of local rugby by winning the league title most number of times since 1994. Most of the clubs did all they could to lay their hands on the league title but the proud Kandy SC side prevented them from snatching it away from their custody with some superb rugby.
