Kandy SC committee named at AGM

The 149 year old Kandy SC had their AGM on Sunday at the NIttawela club house and named the new committee, they don’t elect office bearers, but they name.

This time they were finding difficult get a person to be the president, and finally an old member was forced to take over and the following were named to serve in the 2023/24 committee of Kandy Sports Club – Patron R. Page. Trustees – L. Soysa, M Weerasinghe, S Perera. President S. Perera. Vice Presidents L. Wijesuriya Senior Vice President, Vice presidents J. Pathirana , A. Nanayakkara – Secretary S. Liyanage – Treasurer U. Silva – ground secretary K. Silva – Bar and Social A. Ranasinghe , Legal Consultant M. M. Jeffry, Captain rugby L. Perera – Rugby Captain Committee members – A. Ratwatte, A.W.A.Rasheed, Dr. A. Welikala, A. Abudeen, F. Marija, N. Ratwatte , P. Basnayake S. Kothalawala , L. Perera . SLR representative A. Ratwatte, CPRFU repetitive K. Silva – Rugby Committee L. Wijesuriya – Chairman , F. Marija – Head Coach , B. Thalagampola – Asst Coach K. Silva Team Manager and L. Perera Team captain.

Trinity CP U-17 basketball Champs

In the Central Province under 17 basketball championship Trinity College team led by Thinuka Jamburegoda emerged as champions. The event took place at St. Anthony’s College courts at Katugastota.

Thanks to the team Trinity College skipper Tinuka Jamburegoda did his part well and he was well supported by deputy skipper Savitha Gunawardana, Lakindu Perera, Sanchitha Wickrama, Theesara Galgodawatta, Adriel Jayasuriya, Sandaru Kularathane, Ravindu Herath, Matheesha De Silva, Lakith Sirimanne.

A big hand should go to head coach Susil Udukubura, Assistant Coaches Sanith Godagama and Hamza Harish for their good guidance. The finals was a one side affair where they beat Gateway College by 54-05

Kandy need fully equipped sports facility

Kandy city does not have a fully equipped sports facility. Over here in the hill Capital of Kandy, many sports promoters have come and gone.

Without exception all these promoters proclaimed that sports development was their priority, for sure certain amount of development has happened in this period. But as in the case of Kandy’s sportsmen they are in need of sports facilities in general and mostly a well equipped play ground. Kandy district has the proud record of having produced some of the greatest sportsmen be it in the field of Rugby, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Basketball, Athletics, Badminton, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, Swimming, and in all indoor games such as Table Tennis, Boxing, Weightlifting, Bodybuilding, Billiards and Snooker.

Sports for the past decades have been so popular in Kandy and today with all schools in Kandy taking part in all sports activities there is a huge necessity for advanced facilities for sports. Today schools are finding it difficult to play a cricket or a rugby games, no grounds and the ground fee is sky high.
