Defending champions Kandy Sports Club produced a good game of rugby, which helped them to register a 33 points (four goals and a try) to-19 (two goals and a try) win over Police SC in the Nippon Paint Inter-Club Rugby League first-round match played at Nittawela grounds, yesterday.
With this win, Kandy SC has won three games in a row and their next game is against Sri Lanka Air Force on December 30 (Saturday) at Ratmalana.
It was Kandy SC who scored first in the16th minute off a try by Danushka Ranjan and Tharinda Ratwattte failed with the kick at goal and in the 21st minute Policemen took the lead off a goal, Amjad Faumy scored the try and Prince Chamara goaled it to lead 7-5.
And from this point Kandy SC worked hard and scored a try through Dilshan Fareed which was goaled by Tharinda Ratwatte to take the lead 12-07.
Then in the 30th minute Kandy SC scored another try through Tharinda Ratwatte which was goaled by him to make the score 19-07 and in the 39th minute Dilshan Fareed scored another try which was converted by Tharinda Ratwatte to make the score 26-07, at half time.
Their tactics for the game worked perfectly against the Police after the first sixteen minutes of play, After the turnover, Police ruggerites produced a good display and coming back to their expected style of play scored a try in the 51st through Sachith Silva and it was goaled by Prince Chamara to make the score 26-14 and once again in the 56th minute Cops scored through Dulanjana Wijesinghe and kick at goal was missed by Prince Chamrara, now the score read Kandy SC 26- Police 19. Kandy SC came back storming and increasd the lead in the 64th minute through Tharinda Ratwatte’s beautiful try which he himself goaled it to make the score 33-19.
