Promising Saha Kapilasena continued with his giant killing performance as he annexed the Boys’ Under-14 Singles title at the 107th Colombo Open Tennis Championships, which continued at the SLTA Courts in Green Path yesterday.
The sixth seed schoolboy from Elizabeth Moir School came from behind with a magnificent performance to beat the fifth seed Ganuka Fernando 4-5, 7-6, 10-7 in a gruelling three-set final encounter.
Kapilasena displayed a great amount of courage and determination to clinch the last two sets following a superb late rally after having conceded the opening set to his opponent.
Meanwhile, bad weather spoiled the proceedings during the evening session of play as two other important finals had to be put off for today.
In the Women’s Doubles final top seed Savini Jayasuriya and Janali Manamperi were scheduled to meet the combination of Hasali Gajaba and Saneshi Willolaarachchi while Dinara de Silva was set to take on Githmi Fernando in the Girls’ Under-16 final.
