Karnataka cultural concert today
Sri Lanka’s first Karnataka cultural concert will be held today (25) with the participation of a group of performing artistes of nearly thirty well-known folk and classical traditions of Karnataka State. It will be held at 4 p.m. at the Performing Arts University auditorium, Colombo.
Dances (Academic, traditional and folk), musical performances, multilingual poetry recitals, Mudra dramas, puppet shows etc. will be presented at the concert.
International Cultural Council of India and Global Peace Foundation will present this cultural show in collaboration with Swami Vivekananda Indian Cultural Centre, Higher Education State Ministry and Cultural University, Colombo. The concert will be organised by Asian Media and Culture Association (AMCA) and PEN Sri Lanka.
Chairman of the International Cultural Council of India (ICCI) K. P. Manjunath Sagar said that this is the 40th cultural show of the ICCI and it will focus primarily on Karnataka folk songs, folk dances, folk music and folk poetry.
Also ‘Yaksha Ghana Dance’ is performed by Shreyas Ravi Hegde.
The choreography featuring Guru Dr. Jaya Shree, Ravi Hegde and Shruthi Ashish will be highlights of the concert. Folk poetry recitals will be performed by Prof. Bindiganavele Bhagavan and Dr. Archana Alhani.
Cultural Affairs State Minister Vidura Wickramanayake, Higher Education State Minister Suren Raghavan, Performing Arts University Vice Chancellor Prof. Rohana P. Mahalianarachchi will be the chief guests of the concert.
AMCA Chairman Upul Janaka Jayasimghe invited everyone for the concert, which will be held from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm and it will be held free of charge.
