Athlete and Volleyball player, All Island John Tarbet Sri Lanka Schools record holder Gulawita Pulandarage Kaveesha Gimhan Nethsara has brought honour and immense glory to his two schools Upadya Maha Vidyalaya Panadura and Taxila Central College Horana with his deeds on the Athletic field.
Kaveesha who hails from Madupitiya Panadura was born on 2nd May 2006 and admitted to his first school in 2012 During this period there were no sports from grade one to five at this school but in grade six Kaveesha commenced Volleyball and participated at the Inter House Tournaments from grade six to eight and his teams were victorious.
Kaveesha lost his father Dimuthu Saman Kumar during his younger days due to an accident and his mother Nayana Sandamali and his two uncles Channa Priyankara and Saman Kumara made arrangements to admit him to Taxila Vidyalaya in 2019 and in the same year he commenced athletics under school coaches Indika Wannigarathne and R.R.Malinga and in the same year participating in Discus and Putt Shot events in the under 14 age group he swept the board and in the Divisional Educational, Zonal and Provincial Meets he won the under 14 events in Discus and Putt Shot and he came second in Putt Shot.
Same year representing the school at the John Tarbet All Island Athletic Meet in he set an All Island Schools Record for Putt Shot in the under 14 age group at a distance of 13.75 metres and in the following year too at the Provincial Educational Meet he won the Putt Shot and Discus Events. In 2019 at the DRO Office Panadura Athletic Meet he won the under 16 age group in Putt Shot. His Principal Mrs. K.K.P.M. Jayatilleke is always supportive.
