Kavindu Gimhan – a promising youth volleyball player

Member of the Sri Lanka volleyball youth pool and promising athlete Kavindu Gimhan has brought honour and fame to his school Vijayaba National School, Hungama.

Kavindu was born on October 8, 2002 and initially he attended the neighboring school Bataatha Junior School in Hungama.

As there were no sports activities in that school, he was drafted to Vijayaba Vidyalaya in 2013.

In 2015, he participated in the Inter-House Sports Meet in the Under-16 age group and won the discus throw and the long jump events and came second in the shot put event.

However, he did not participate at the Divisional Meet but he continued to take part in the Inter-House Sports Meets and won places.

In 2016, he joined the volleyball team and helped his school win the Zonal and Provincial event and reached the top eight in the All-Island Under-15 Tournament.

In the following year, they emerged as the second runners-up at the All-Island Schools Tournament and were placed second in the Under-17 Tournament.

In 2018, they came fourth in the All-Island National School Games and in 2019 they were placed third in the DSI Tournament.

In the same year, they emerged runners-up in the Under-25 Open Tournament. Kavindu was also selected for Sri Lanka’s youth volleyball tour of Iran.
