Kesbewa hit-and-run driver apprehended

Kesbewa Police say that the driver of the car who fled after hitting a pre-school teacher who was walking on the pedestrian crossing in Halpita area of Kesbewa was arrested.

Last Thursday 05 was when the accident took place, a person nearby managed to write down the last 4 digits of the car’s registration number and gave it to a shop and according to a long investigation done with that, the car was identified as one from Embilipitiya area, Police said.

The registered owner was then identified and after it was revealed that he had given the car on rental basis, the businessman who had taken it on rent was called to the Police and during questioning he admitted that the accident was caused by him.

In that accident a 38 years old pre-school teacher residing at Halpita Kahawatta Mawatha, Polgasowita, died and her 12-year-old daughter was injured.

Statements were obtained from another person who came in the car with the suspect that day.

The suspect is to be produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court Kesbewa Police Officer in Charge Chief Inspector Ranjana Samarasinghe is conducting investigations.
